Key requirements for swimming pool lights
Swimming pool lights operate mostly underwater which raises special requirements – some of these are listed below.
Waterproof design
These lights have to operate in underwater conditions which means they have to be properly sealed and their house should endure water pressure.
It is also called a water-tight feature and the level of watertightness is often expressed by the IP rating. IP rating is a technical value defined in IEC 60529 which classifies and rates the degree of protection provided by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures against intrusion, dust, accidental contact, and water. The IP rate consists of 2 digits, the second digit shows how waterproof the given electrical product is. Sylvania swimming pool lights have the highest possible IP rating: IP68 which means that “the equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions”.
Corrosion resistance
Underwater lights should be resistant to corrosion even when the water is drained out of the pool. It has to endure the changing water and air conditions.
